Fundraiser Turn in Day & Friday Trip to Spruce Pine

This will be a different day due to the trip that we will be taking on Friday.  Please make sure that your student brings in the money for the cards Wednesday, Thursday, or next Monday.  DO NOT SEND THE MONEY WITH STUDENTS ON FRIDAY.

Students need to be here by 6:45am on Friday and need to have a ride home here at 4:30pm. We will be loading the buses and leaving at 7am.  The bus will not be able to wait for late students and money will not be refunded.   Students need to wear uniform bottoms and good shoes for walking.  Students may wear Kannapolis City Schools Spirit TShirts or their regular uniform collared shirts.  Student may bring snacks, hat, water bottle, and sunblock.  If your student wants to bring a camera they may, but teachers are not responsible for items that are lost, broken, or stolen.  I have been telling the kids that if it is expensive then it needs to stay at home.

If you are planning on driving yourself to the location please let me know so I can make you a copy of the address and other important information about the trip.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know ASAP.

First Day!

There are two papers that I would like back as soon as possible. I would like for students to get the iPad agreement and Internet papers signed and returned so that we can use our classroom iPads. Overall we had a great first day. I am looking forward to getting to know your children better this year.

Two DOWN! ONE to go!

Tomorrow will be our last day of testing!!!  YAY!

The kids were AMAZING today!  I am so proud of how hard they worked and respected each other's testing environment.  It is really hard to be quiet and still for 3 hours straight and they did it!

Tomorrow is the math test. Please continue to do all the great things you have been doing to prepare your children for these tests.  I have seen notes that got proudly displayed on the corner of the desk, been told about getting treated to a special breakfast, and heard grumbles about earlier bedtimes.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Keep it up parents!

Reading EOG Test tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the Reading End of Grade Test. While these test will not determine if your student will pass the 5th grade their scores are used to determine student growth, asses my teaching, and is calculated to grade our school as a whole; so it is imperative that your child tries to do his/her best tomorrow morning.

Please do the following things this evening  and tomorrow morning to insure that your student has a productive testing day.
Have your child:
- Go outside and play today! The more active they are today the earlier and better they will sleep tonight.
- Go to bed early! Studies tell us that kids between the ages of 7-12 need to get about 10-11 hours of sleep each night in order to be well rested.
- Eat a healthy breakfast! A balanced breakfast will allow students to preform their best. Also, having your stomach imitate whale songs during testing is not only distracting for the hungry child it also distracts the surrounding students that are trying to focus and concentrate.
- Build them UP! - We have done a lot of work this year and your children have grown dramatically since the beginning of the year. Remind your child that their individual best is all that we are asking for. Hug them, Remind them that they are brilliant, excellent thinkers. Tell them you love them. This is just one test on one day and it does not define who they are. Take it seriously but, you got this. And then tell them again that you love them.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me ASAP!

Whitewater Trip Permission, Waiver, & Money DUE

Permission Slips, Waivers, & Money for the Whitewater center are due on Wednesday of next week.  I have had many questions about this trip that I would like clarify.  Students will be wearing life jackets during the rafting.  There will be a professional guide/lifeguard on each boat and other lifeguards watching us around the rafting course.  The water level and speed will be adjusted to be at an appropriate speed and level for our students.

If you are interested in chaperoning and participating you will need to pay $42 and provide your own transportation.  We will need an adult (not including the professional guide) on each boat (a boat will have 8-10 people on it).  I need to know if you are interested in chaperoning ASAP.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.
Thank you for such a great year!
